Key people at Wootton Preschool focus on children’s emotional well-being by nurturing close, trusting and supportive relationships. Practitioners continually pay attention to and spend quality time with their key children in all aspects of their day to ensure their needs are met and feelings accepted.
 
Each key person will develop strong relationships with parents and children during their first few sessions, daily contact and also preschool events to ensure they show effective shared care for each child. We invite parents to become involved in preschool activities or to replicate or add to them in their home experience through our regular newsletters and to view and add to their child’s learning journey by contributing to the child development folders which are maintained for each child by our practitioners.

Keeping SafeOur practitioners believe that all young children are vulnerable and have the right to be safe and protected. Key people encourage every child at each stage to take appropriate risks and learn how to keep safe including an awareness of their own safety in active experiences.
 A secure environment is of paramount importance to us at Wootton Preschool. We are proud of the first class environment we provide for the children in our care and of the personal qualities and skills that our Foundation Stage Leader and staff bring to the task of caring for children in a way which develops the potential of each child.
 We have a secure door entry system, only allowing access through the main front door by way of a centrally monitored key fob.
Authorised CollectionThrough our collection policy we only allow authorised family or friends to collect a child. Permission is only granted if authorised by the parent and identification is required before access is granted. Each child is “signed in” at the start of each session and “signed out” upon collection.

Food and Nutrition
As part of our ‘Personal, Social and Emotional Development’ and ‘Knowledge and Understanding of the World’ curriculum we provide a daily snack table where we encourage the children to sit down with their peers and select their own snack independently. This helps to improve social skills amongst peers but also encourages good table manners and understanding ways of keeping healthy. We also cook food from a range of cultures to celebrate festivals. This is a great opportunity for us to taste new foods and to learn about a wide range of religions, cultures and traditions. Due to the amount of children allergic to nuts and the severity of their reaction, we are a nut free school.

Clothing
We provide protective clothing for the children when they play with messy activities. We encourage children to gain the skills that help them to be independent and look after themselves. These include taking themselves to the toilet and taking off, putting on outdoor clothes. Clothing that is easy for them to manage will help them to do this.
As a pre-school we have our own t-shirts and jumpers with the pre-schools logo on. This is not a compulsory uniform but if you would like purchase any of these items please see a member of staff in the office who will be happy to help you with the sizes.
