Year 1 News

Woburn Safari

Year 1 had a fantastic trip to Woburn Safari Park. We were very lucky with the weather and the children represented the school fantastically. It was an excellent opportunity for the children to share their knowledge about animals and they also found out lots of new facts too! Thank you for your contributions so that all of the children in Year 1 were able to take part in this experience.

Design and Technology

This half term the children in Year 1 have enjoyed learning about levers and sliders in DT. They explored books using these mechanisms and then created a moving rocket picture, using their chosen mechanism. The children have been busy designing their Christmas cards and they plan to use a lever or slider so we hope you like your moving Christmas card when it comes home next week!

Superhero Day

Year 1 have thoroughly enjoyed their superhero topic and had a fun-filled 'Superhero Day' to end the half term. The children's costumes were fantastic and they enjoyed taking part in lots of superhero related activities such as science experiments, colouring and junk modelling. All of the children in each class were extremely brave and performed a superhero poem to a Year 2 class. What a great first half term Year 1!

Year 1 have had a great start to their Superheroes topic. The children found lots of vegetables that had been trapped by Evil Pea and enjoyed rescuing Supertato. They have been making their own traps for Evil Pea as well as recreating the supermarket from our class book in the small world area. This week we have started looking at our bodies and will continue to learn more about our senses next week. They have all settled very well into Year 1. Well done everyone!
