Octopus News

Octopus Class has come to the end of a successful Autumn Term! The children have travelled through time, exploring life from the Stone Age to the beginning of the Iron Age. In science, they completed their unit on forces and magnets, discovering how things move and interact. DT lessons sparked creativity as they designed and made their own mechanical posters. To finish the term, the class embraced the festive season with Christmas art projects, including the much-loved Year 3 tradition of sketching robins for their 2025 calendars.  Wishing everyone a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!

Fantastic Swordfish!

Swordfish had lots of fun investigating levers and linkages in their Design & Technology unit this half term. Their final piece was inspired by the Iron Man! Great job!

Moving Mechanisms!

Stingrays class are enjoying their new Design Technology unit.  They have been investigating levers and linkages and were excited to try making a waving hand.  They will be practising different moving mechanisms, and eventually designing and creating a moving poster based on our English text, The Iron Man!  Great work Stingrays.

Stone Age Day at Wootton Lower School

Our Year 3 pupils recently traveled back in time for an exciting Stone Age Day! The children came dressed in fabulous Stone Age-inspired costumes, setting the scene for a day filled with hands-on learning and creative activities.

Throughout the day, they engaged in a variety of tasks to deepen their understanding of life in the Stone Age. The children played a Stone Age-inspired board game, letting their imaginations run wild as they navigated challenges from prehistoric times. They also created fabulous Stone Age themed drawings. In our "Make a Shoe Challenge," pupils tried their hand at constructing footwear that Stone Age people might have worn. The day continued with a Bronze Age-inspired activity, where each child sculpted a clay bowl—a memento of their journey through early history.

After all the hands-on fun, the children watched a Stone Age film, wrapping up a full day of historical immersion. It was a memorable day for everyone, and we’re delighted to share these wonderful experiences with you!

Outstanding Octopuses

Octopus Class have had a fantastic first half term in Year 3! They’ve been diving into the past with their topic on the Stone Age, creating impressive woolly mammoth models and a mini Stonehenge. The children have also produced fantastic cave art that showcases their creativity and growing knowledge of ancient history. In Science, they've excelled while learning all about rocks and soils, becoming budding geologists. It’s been a brilliant start to the year, and we can’t wait to see what they achieve next! Check out a gallery of just some of the things we have been getting up to below.

Stingrays the Historians!

Stingrays class are loving their topic of 'Through the Ages'. This week they learned about the incredible historical site of Stone Henge.  They made superb suggestions about how the stones could have been transported and erected during Neolithic times.  They were very excited to test their knowledge by trying to build a model of the heritage site, complete with the sarsen stones from Wiltshire and blue stones from Wales!  Fantastic historical knowledge Stingrays!
